Tilt - Statement

My current series of mixed-media artwork explore my relationship to nature
through abstraction. I find inspiration in the silent structures, environmental
patterns and geological formations found in the landscape throughout upstate
New York. The hand-painted papers, printed fragments, and precisely cut shapes
become the foundation for compositions that hover between organic and
architectural. Layered surfaces explore shifting terrains and imagined
ecosystems. The stitched and drawn linework introduces a sense of connection,
tension, and movement across the planes.

I enjoy contrasting nature’s rhythms with geometric structures within my
works. Rather than depicting recognizable scenes, my artworks distill natural
elements into fragments. The results are circles that feel like celestial
bodies, angled shapes reminiscent of crystals, and networks of lines that
resemble roots. By reducing the natural world to geometric shapes, the work
reveals the underlying systems that shape our environments.

These pieces explore a balance between precision and play. The hard edges of
the geometric forms interact with the softness of textured surfaces, creating
tension between control and chaos. Through these works I explore how my
experience of the surrounding landscape is formed and altered physically and
conceptually over time.
